PRP & PRF Treatments

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) & Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)

PRP and PRF are procedures that use components prepared from a patient's own blood.

At SkinIQ Aesthetics, treatment begins with an individual consultation and clinical assessment. Your concerns, medical history, suitability, treatment options, potential risks, limitations and expected recovery are discussed before proceeding.

Treatment outcomes vary between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.

What is PRP?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is an autologous blood preparation, meaning it is prepared from your own blood.

A small blood sample is collected and processed using centrifugation to separate blood components and prepare a platelet-containing plasma fraction.

Where clinically appropriate, PRP may be considered as part of an individual treatment plan.

What is PRF?

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is also prepared from a patient’s own blood.

PRF is prepared differently from PRP and contains a fibrin component.

Following consultation and assessment, PRF may be considered for selected patients and treatment areas.

PRP and PRF are different preparations. The option considered will depend on your individual assessment and treatment plan.

Areas That May Be Considered

PRP or PRF may be considered for selected aesthetic concerns following individual consultation and clinical assessment.

Facial Skin

PRP or PRF may be considered as part of an individual treatment plan for selected patients with concerns relating to the appearance and quality of their skin.

Suitability, limitations, alternatives and reasonable expectations will be discussed during consultation.

Under-Eye Area

PRF may be considered for selected patients seeking treatment of the under-eye area.

The under-eye region requires careful clinical assessment because of its anatomy. Not everyone will be suitable for treatment.

Potential risks, limitations, alternatives and expected recovery will be discussed before proceeding.

Scalp & Hair-Thinning Concerns

PRP may be considered for selected patients concerned about hair thinning.

Hair thinning and hair loss can have different underlying causes. An appropriate assessment is therefore important before treatment.

Where clinically indicated, further assessment by a GP, dermatologist or another appropriate healthcare practitioner may be recommended.

PRP or PRF — What's the Difference?

Both PRP and PRF are prepared from a patient’s own blood, but their preparation methods and characteristics differ.

PRP involves preparation of a platelet-containing plasma fraction.

PRF is prepared differently and contains a fibrin component.

Neither treatment is automatically more appropriate than the other.

The option considered will depend on your individual circumstances, treatment area and clinical assessment.

Your Consultation

An individual consultation and suitability assessment are required before treatment.

Your consultation may include discussion of:

Your treatment concerns and expectations

Relevant medical history

Current medications and supplements

Previous cosmetic and medical treatments

Assessment of the proposed treatment area

Suitability for PRP or PRF

Available alternatives

Potential risks and complications

Expected recovery and aftercare

Proposed treatment plan

Treatment costs

You will have the opportunity to ask questions and consider the information provided before deciding whether to proceed.

A consultation does not mean that treatment will automatically be recommended or performed.

What Happens During Treatment?

Where treatment is considered clinically appropriate, a small blood sample is collected using standard venepuncture techniques.

The blood is then processed according to the applicable PRP or PRF preparation protocol.

The prepared product is administered according to the individual treatment plan.

The exact procedure may vary depending on the treatment area and individual clinical circumstances.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

There is no single treatment schedule suitable for everyone.

The number and timing of treatments will depend on your individual assessment, treatment area and response to treatment.

Any recommendation for further treatment will be discussed with you as part of your treatment plan.

Results

Responses to PRP and PRF vary between individuals.

Where changes occur, they may develop gradually. The degree and duration of any change may also vary.

No specific result or degree of improvement can be guaranteed.

Some patients may experience limited or no noticeable improvement.

Reasonable expectations and treatment limitations will be discussed during consultation.

Risks & Recovery

PRP and PRF are clinical procedures and involve potential risks and side effects.

Temporary effects may include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Tenderness or discomfort
  • Bruising
  • Minor bleeding at blood-collection or treatment sites

Other complications may occur.

The risks relevant to your proposed procedure will be discussed during your consultation and informed-consent process.

Aftercare information will be provided, including guidance about when to contact the clinic or seek medical attention.

Who May Not Be Suitable?

Suitability may be influenced by factors including:

  • Medical history
  • Current medications
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Blood-related conditions
  • Active infection
  • Other individual clinical circumstances

Where appropriate, treatment may be postponed or not recommended, or further medical assessment may be required.

Clinical Care & Governance

At SkinIQ Aesthetics, PRP and PRF procedures are provided following individual clinical assessment, informed consent and appropriate clinical protocols.

Where required under the applicable regulatory framework, treatment is provided under appropriate medical clinical care and professional supervision.

Clinical processes include appropriate patient assessment, documentation, infection prevention and control, blood collection and handling, informed consent, aftercare and follow-up.

Patient suitability and safety are considered before treatment proceeds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are PRP and PRF prepared from my own blood?

Neither is automatically more appropriate. They are prepared differently, and suitability depends on the individual, proposed treatment area and clinical assessment.

PRF may be considered for selected patients following clinical assessment. The under-eye area requires careful assessment, and not everyone will be suitable.

PRP may be considered for selected patients concerned about hair thinning. Because hair thinning can have different underlying causes, further medical assessment may sometimes be recommended.

No. Individual responses vary and no specific treatment outcome can be guaranteed.

Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, discomfort or bruising may occur. Recovery varies between individuals and according to the procedure performed.
